Plan and Do it

A few years back I was thinking about making a few changes that would have a tremendous impact on my life. It involved relocation and would take me away from family and friends to another part of the country. I had been down that road a few times before and simply was not planning on doing it again. But in my mind I knew that it was the right decision to make. My heart, though, simply wouldn’t go along with it.

A Friend Helps

I happened to be speaking with a friend about my dilemma and explained to her the difficulty I was having when trying to make the decision. She simply told me, “Hey, I’m going to send you something. When you receive it, call me.”

A few days after our conversation I received the package from her. It contained a small black pouch, and inside the pouch, three stones. I took them out, held them in my hand and called her. When we spoke, she talked to me about the divine, spiritual properties of the quartz. I didn’t doubt her, but honestly, I didn’t buy into the whole psychic thing. I set the stones to the side and continued our conversation, trying to steer away from the metaphysical realm. And she obliged.

She went on to give me the following advice, “While holding the stones, put a plan in place that involves making this move. Then, a few weeks later, do something towards the move itself. It will become a reality.” She gave me a date to put the plan together and then another, to put an action into motion.

And so I did. And it worked. Good things began to happen, and I followed one action with others. Soon, I had put an entire plan together, with deliverables and dates. When I told my friend, she was gleeful and said, “You see, the stones worked.”\

Planning: I Put a Plan together and Worked That Plan!

I’m a practical person and the fact of the matter is, the moved worked because I put a plan together, along with tasks and timelines- I made a plan and worked my plan. Planning had always been import to me, but because I had done nothing toward the move, a sense of anxiety would overtake me each time I thought about the move. I failed to plan! But once I started to build my plan, and see it unfold, that uneasiness dissipated.

Dale Carnegie once wrote, “Once a decision is carefully reached, act! Get busy carrying out your decision – and dismiss all anxiety of the outcome.” So, no, I don’t think it was the stones that helped me build the plan or work my plan.

Why The Stones?

So, why did I mention the stones? We all have things we believe in. Some of our beliefs may be crazy to others. But, they matter to us. Far be it from me to disparage something so marvelous as a belief in healing energies and psychic powers. It may not be my thing, but others find solace in it. And so, I have my things – they are not stones but they are just as important to me as those stones are to those who believe in them. My stones gave me the courage to find and answer and then put that answer into action. And I found that courage because a friend cared enough to send me her stones.
