Stylus After Stylus and Finally an Apple Pencil!

The Apple Pencil

When I got my first iPad there was no such thing as the Apple Pencil.  You see, it was a bunch of years ago and my first purchase was an iPad 3.  And when I got my iPad, I thought, “Hey, maybe I can use this thing for something other than playing games, watching videos and listening to music.  So, I decided to convert it to business use.  Man, was that a chore.

Back then, there weren’t a lot of business applications that worked well.  This was before Apple was giving away their productivity suite – Pages, Numbers, and Keynote – and Microsoft hadn’t yet released a version of office for the iPad.  And the other office suites that were out there didn’t work very well.  There were so pretty good PDF solution out that that I could open presentations in, and with a stylus, mark them up.  So, with that in mind, I bought a Logitech Bluetooth keyboard and a stylus in an effort to convert my iPad into something special.

Before the Apple Pencil, The Pickings Were Slim!

I didn’t know much about styluses back then (dang, I didn’t even know that it had two plurals – styli or styluses).  I just thought a stylus was a souped up version of a pen and could do all kinds of wonderful things on an iPad or android table.  The few Adobe apps out there boasted these amazing drawings that were supposedly done on an iPad.  But after buying my first Stylus, I soon found out that was crap.  When I got home and unwrapped it I was met by this rubber tip.  Heck, I thought that was some type of eraser.  When I found out that it was actually the tip of the stylus, I wondered how the hell was I suppose to draw a line with any type of precision.

Nothing More Than an Expensive Highlighter

I soon came to the realization that the stylus was no good for writing, drawing, or anything that required precision.  It was nothing more than an expensive highlighter, that I could only use in iBooks (and even that didn’t work very well).  But that didn’t deter me.  My search went on.

Searching for an Apple Pencil Before there Was One!

Oh, yes, I was on a search.  And Amazon was the benefactor of that search.  I bought all types of concoctions purporting to be the next best thing is precision writing. Here’s an image of some of the

Wasted Money on Styli

investments I made in my search to find a pen that had a fine tip and offered the features I was looking for.  Nothing worked. But I kept buying.  Heck, I bought styluses with LED lights, and even one that looked like a missile. I came close, once, when Adonit offered a battery powered, finer tipped Stylus, but the technology was still new and the reviews were overly positive (that has changed dramatically, though).  But finally, my wait was over.

My Apple Pencil

So, two years ago, I got my first iPad Pro.  And of course, as the ads promoted, I was eager to turn my iPad Pro into a full fledged computing device.  When I saw this beautiful, sleek accessory called the Apple Pencil, the company had me hooked.  I jumped at the opportunity to purchase it, along with an Apple Smart Keyboard.

Now at this point, you maybe expecting a long, drawn out review of this neat pencil.  But, nope, I won’t do that.  I’ll just tell you that iMy Apple Pencilt works really, really, well.  I like it and would trade it for any other stylus on the market.  In fact, I even got an accessory for my Apple Pencil. If you look closely, you’ll see mine has a clip on it.  Pretty snappy, huh?  And the great thing about the clip is that you don’t have to buy it from Apple.  Heck, mine was free.  I simply took it off one of my old mechanical pencils.  Worked like a charm.
